Paris Top 10 Cafes – Must Visit Places in Paris 1

As mentioned in my previous post on Brussels, I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to go on a 6 months exchange program to Paris. So the first thing that I did in preparation for my Paris trip was to come up with my very own list of Parisian Cafes to visit. Mainly because like many others, I am a HUGE fan of cafes. I love how the smell of freshly brewed coffee fills the air and how many cafes provide a calming and conducive environment for catching up, writing and even studying. Parisian Cafes seem to sound even better with the subtle romantic ring to it. During the 6 months that I was in Paris, I spent a substantial amount of my free time in cafes. Each of the cafes that I visited were unique in their own ways. However, if you are visiting Paris for a short time and have no time to visit that many cafes or have no idea where to start, my carefully curated list of Paris Top 10 Cafes will be useful.

Paris Top 10 Cafes

1. La Caféothèque

The coffee served at La Caféothèque is one of my favourites amongst all the cafes in Paris. As one of the pioneers of specialty coffee in Paris, this cafe offers a wide variety of beans that are roasted in house. You can find many positive reviews on the coffee from La Caféothèque from other online sources as well.

Ice Creams at La Caféothèque is pretty good as well. The Red Thai Tea flavour that I tried was thick in consistency and creamy – just to my liking.

3. Sugar Plum Cake Shop

I must admit that the carrot cake at Sugar Plum Cake Shop is definitely one of the best carrot cake I had. It was so good that my boyfriend and I ordered 1 slice after another, even though we were very full from the Korean food that we had for lunch next door. The fact that he is usually not a cake kinda person speaks volume about how good the cake was. This cafe was recommended by a friend and my friend was raving about the carrot cake as well! One of the big plus points for this cafe is that the staff are very friendly and they speak good english! Top 10 Cafes in Paris

One interesting thing fact about the French people is that no matter whether it is rain or shine, they always prefer to sit outside. (It was raining when this photo was taken.)

When I first saw the cake, I thought that it may be too sweet because of the generous amount of frosting around and between the layers of cake. But it turned out that the frosting was actually very light and the sweetness level was just right for me! Enough of my raving (you just have to try it for yourself).

Although I did not get to try the coffee from Sugarplum Cake Shop, I know that they get their coffee beans from Cafe Lomi. Having tried coffee from Cafe Lomi, coffee at Sugarplum Cake Shop should be pretty good as well. If you are a tea lover, tea at this cafe is another hot favourite!

4. Soul Kitchen

Soul Kitchen is a quaint cafe tucked away at the north side of Paris. This cafe may not gather as much publicity as the other cafes but when I chanced upon it on my way to Sacre-Coeur, I feel in love with it at once and went back several times during the course of my exchange. One major drawing factor of Soul Kitchen is that most if not all of their food are made by the girls behind Soul Kitchen. Even though their food is homemade, it is still reasonably priced at about 13.50 – 15.50 Euros for a set meal including a main, a salad and a dessert. What’s more their menu changes daily so you don’t have to worry about eating the same dishes when visiting again. Paris Top 10 Cafes

5. Merci Used Book Cafe

As the name of this cafe suggests, this cafe stands out amongst the rest as it provides used books for your reading pleasures. When I went to this cafe, I was half expecting tonnes of French books but thankfully, they have english books as well. Paris Top 10 Cafes

8. Carette

Carette is one of those typical french cafe/ high-tea joints where you can enjoy macarons and croissants with quaint looking tea sets while people watching. Having that said, the selection of food and drinks at Carette is also at the pricier side. Paris Top 10 Cafes

What I really liked about this cafe is that it offers a very “french” kind of experience. The outdoor seating allows you to people watch outside this elegant cafe decorated with touches of gold while you drink tea from some fine china accompanied by pastries. The french really do know how to enjoy life, don’t they?

9. KB Café Shop

KB has garnered many positive comments over the years and is rather popular with the locals, especially students. I been to this cafe a couple of times during my stay in Paris and each time, KB would be filled with students and/or writers. Even though KB is rather small, the ambiance is quite suitable for getting some work done. KB provides a good number of power points and free WIFI. Paris Top 10 Cafes

10. Mamie Gâteaux

With freshly homemade tarts and a selection of freshly brewed teas, Mamie Gâteaux is another good hangout spot on weekends. Unlike many other tea joints, Mamie Gâteaux precisely times the duration that each tea bag remains infused in the teapot and removes the tea bags before serving the freshly brewed tea. This ensures that the taste of your tea remains just right throughout your length of stay. Besides paying specific attention to the tea that they serve, they make pretty good tarts that are very popular as well. Paris Top 10 Cafes
