Hotel Jen Tanglin Singapore

Hotel Jen Tanglin is a fuss-free, mid-range hotel by Shangri-La International Hotel Management. This hotel has just completed the 2nd phase of its large-scale renovation which covered the top 7 floors which consist of 64 club rooms, 152 deluxe rooms, 15 suites and a Club Lounge. Read on to find out more about this newly renovated, highly raved hotel!

Renovation

DSC_0535For the final phase of upgrading, the reception counter has been relocated temporarily from 12th August 2015 to 28th October 2015 to make way for Hotel Jen Tanglin‘s brand new lobby. Even though the makeshift lobby is rather small, it still serves its purpose pretty well.

Instead of leaving the large white hoarding wall which have been put up to close off the renovation space on the ground floor as it is, Hotel Jen Tanglin Singapore engaged a group of young local artists to add some doodles to the wall. You’ll even be able to find recommendations on what to eat and where to go on the “Jen Heart Map” in front of the temporary reception area.

Besides the hotel lobby, the venue for international buffet breakfast for guests has been relocated as well. Guests will now be having breakfast in the function rooms on level 2. Club room guests will not be affected as breakfast for club room guests will still be served at the Club Lounge on level 17.

Club Room

I was told that the new club rooms is one of the highlights of the renovated Hotel Jen and true enough, it did not disappoint. The room has a subtle industrial yet contemporary look achieved through the use of woods, metals and a brick wall. It may not be huge but it is definitely spacious enough for you to either watch a movie from the bed, read a novel on the sofa or complete some outstanding work on the desk.

One of the benefits of staying in a newly renovated room is that everything in the room tends to be in mint condition. I have no complaints about the room except that it would have been better if it comes with a bath tub for a nice, relaxing bath to unwind after a long day.

Perks for Club Rooms

Privileges that Hotel guests staying in the club rooms get to enjoy include:

  • Breakfast from 6:30am – 11:00am
  • Mid-afternoon culinary treats 2:00pm – 4:00pm
  • Coffee, tea and soft drinks available 24/7
  • Cocktail hour from 5:00pm – 7:30pm
  • Exclusive check in, reception and concierge on level 17
  • 24-hour access to the club lounge

Club Lounge

The Club Lounge is located on the 17th Floor of the hotel. The theme of the Club Lounge is similar to that of the club rooms.

One thing that I really like about this Club Lounge is that Club Room guests will be able to access it 24/7 with the room keys. During my stay, I noticed that it is quite common for club room guests to have supper at the club lounge or head there for a hot chocolate fix.

Cocktail Hour (5:00pm – 7:30pm)

You’ll be able to find a variety of finger food (pizza, dumpling, meatball etc), fruits, cheese, hard liquors and wines amongst others at the evening cocktail. One interesting thing that caught my eye is that they provide “tapao” boxes for guests to take away their food for consumption elsewhere. This is definitely something that I haven’t seen in other hotels.

Breakfast (6:30am – 11:00am):

Like Hotel Jen Orchardgateway, Hotel Jen Tanglin also serves desserts that tastes just as delectable as it looks. Besides desserts, you can also find an array of western food like salmon, bacon, mushroom ragout and sausages amongst others.

Common Facilities / Bar

1. Swimming Pool

The pool in Hotel Jen Tanglin is slightly different in terms of style as compared to the one in Hotel Jen Orchardgateway because this pool did not undergo any renovation after the hotel rebranded from Traders Hotel to Hotel Jen. Although its “wow” factor may not be as high as its counterparts, it is quite big and it serves its purpose well.

2. Ah Hoi’s Kitchen

Ah Hoi’s Kitchen is an award-winning, iconic restaurant in Hotel Jen Tanglin well-known for their local cuisine. Currently, the restaurant is having a “12 at 12 Singapore Local Delights” Promotion.

During weekdays, enjoy 12 favourite local dishes for lunch at 12noon with rice and a drink.

  • 12 local favourites
  • 12noon every weekday
  • 12 SGD per person
  • 12th person in a group will dine for free

12 dishes for SGD12 Nett sounds like a pretty good deal. Would be a good idea to head there for lunch on weekdays. Hotel Jen Tanglin

4. Spa

The Jacuzzi Pool, Steam Room and Sauna Room in the Spa is open to all hotel guests. The spa is where you can go after an intense session at the gym. Hotel Jen Tanglin

5. Rumpoles Bar Hotel Jen Tanglin

Rumpoles Bar is open to both hotel and non-hotel guests. Look out for their promotion that happens from time-to-time! Hotel Jen Tanglin

In comparison, I like the contemporary design of the club rooms and club lounge in Hotel Jen Tanglin better. However, the pool and other common areas in Hotel Jen Orchardgateway has a higher draw factor for me. Having that said, I still feel that it is worthwhile to give both hotels a try!
